Unveiling Perceptions: AI in Recruitment

2024 · MSc Thesis · Yasmin Elsaddik

Overview

This research came out of something I kept noticing everyone was starting to talk about AI in hiring, but no one was asking candidates and hiring managers what they actually thought about it. So I did.

Transparency about how AI is used matters more than whether it's used at all.

What I studied

I surveyed applicants, recruiters, and AI experts on how they experience AI across seven stages of the hiring process. The central question was whether people actually trust AI to make decisions that affect their careers, and where that trust breaks down.

What I found

AI is welcomed early in the funnel where it saves time and feels low-stakes. Trust drops sharply as decisions become more consequential. People want AI working with humans in hiring, not replacing the human at the end.
